Active Hodges Fine Art: It’s a Family Affair

SCAA Staff

An honor in welcoming SCAA artists to our second exhibition of art in the new Powder Springs City Hall Art Gallery.  This particular art exhibit event brings memories full circle as the late Daniel Hodges’ last exhibit was at the SCAA member show in former building awaiting the opening reception before the closures across the globe. An honor to again have his art in Powder Springs.

Reception meet and greet Saturday, April 11 from 2 to 4pm at The City Hall Powder Springs Gallery, 4483 Pineview Dr, Powder Springs, Ga. The new City Hall Powder Springs Gallery is open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am until 4 pm. Art exhibit event closes May 1.

About the Artists

The Hodges family is a trio of gifted creators—Daniel, Deneen, and their daughter, Dannice—each born with an innate passion for artistic expression. Together, their talents form the heart and legacy of Hodges Fine Art.

Daniel Hodges – Daniel’s artistic journey began in childhood, when he spent hours drawing his favorite character, Spiderman. His mother recognized his extraordinary talent early on and nurtured it with encouragement and art supplies.

In 1994, Daniel launched his full‑time career as a Fine Artist, specializing in realism and oil on canvas. His first group exhibition took place on December 2, 1995, at Portfolio Gallery in St. Louis, MO. Just two years later, in 1997, he earned his first solo exhibition at Garret Gallery, titled “Because She Loved Me.” From that moment forward, Daniel’s career flourished.

His work explored themes of spirituality, culture, history, and the human experience, including deep personal reflections on cancer. Daniel’s mastery, discipline, and vision made him a respected and celebrated artist. In 2020, Daniel was called home to be with the Lord. Today, Deneen and Dannice honor his memory by preserving and sharing his profound and prolific body of work.

Deneen Hodges – Deneen’s love for art began in grade school, where she spent countless hours drawing Tippy the Turtle and other characters featured in the TV Guide Drawing Contest. Although she never sent her drawings, she practiced them faithfully, planting the seeds of her creative journey.

In 1995, she and her sorority sister founded Nubian Expressions, offering custom‑painted ceramics. Fate brought her and Daniel together in 2000, and their shared passion for creativity blossomed into both a marriage and a business—Hodges Fine Art, LLC.

After years of supporting Daniel’s artistic career, Deneen returned to creating her own artwork in 2017. She now specializes in acrylic flow, resin, and mixed‑media art, bringing vibrant color, movement, and emotion to every piece.

Dannice Hodges‑Alexander – It became clear early on that Dannice inherited Daniel’s God‑given artistic gift. Although she is currently pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse, her creative talent revealed itself in 2013 when she surprised her mother with a stunning hand‑drawn and painted portrait of actor Morris Chestnut for Mother’s Day.  While that remains her only completed artwork to date, we cannot wait to see how she blooms artistically in the years to come.

The Robinson brothers form a distinctive group of self-taught artists, each offering a unique perspective to “The Robinson Perspective.” Inspired by their parents, Emmitt and Margie Robinson, who infused creativity into their eight children, the brothers’ artistic journeys began at home.

  • Mario DeBlak Robinson: Mario’s watercolors vividly capture his environment, reflecting his family and community with vibrant detail.
  • Levar Robinson: As an art educator in Cobb County, Levar uses his platform to delve into art with compelling, often provocative political themes.

Active Upcoming Events 2025-2026

SCAA Staff

South Cobb Arts Alliance, established in 1972, is an all volunteer supported nonprofit arts organization.

Our projects are usually held in public spaces within specific parameters of use.  Our projects involve local artists, art educators, students, and volunteers whose main goal is to bring art to our communities.

SCAA does national and other juried exhibits, events as well as special projects involving placemaking and art classes.

Consider joining us as Members, Sponsors, Volunteers, or Donors to promote and continue our 53 years and counting of creating art events.

Art makes its communities stronger. Art, even in a child’s chalking, generates smiles.  And, blending the arts creates an environment worth encouraging and carrying on  to more public spaces.

SCAA volunteers hope this brief calendar of events will inspire your artful activities.  Mark your calendars.
