SCAA MEMBERS Exhibit –

SCAA Member Artist Call Registration until  APRIL 30 

SCAA has an exciting opportunity for MEMBERS to be part of the upcoming annual  SCAA Member Exhibit.  All SCAA members are invited to participate; however, memberships must be valid and active as of April 30.  New memberships and renewals should be completed before registering for this event using this  Membership information link with email inquiries sent to SCAA volunteers.

On-Line Registration required for SCAA Member Art Exhibit is until April 30. Details posted below as to SCAA event on-line registration link with required parameters for submission and acceptance into exhibit.  All art shall be original and for sale.  Required photo/image of art, name of artist, title of artwork and price shall be submitted for ONE ARTWORK  with all art ready to hang with appropriate hardware as described, and 3d items to follow guidelines.

Artwork notification will be confirmed with delivery for installation for May 3 from 10am to noon at the North Cobb Regional Library (directional map below), as SCAA Volunteers will begin installing art that day.  Artwork will be picked at the same location on June 28 from 10am-noon.  The Member Exhib reception will take place within the North Cobb Regional Library and held on April 14.

How to sign up for the SCAA Member Exhibit:  Apply for the call for entry of artwork no later than April 30. As space is limited to approximately 80 pieces total, SCAA Member Artists accepted into the exhibit will be sent a confirmation email with a reminder of the event details and a form to complete for the install.

As with all other SCAA Art Exhibits, the Exhibit will require specifications for the art exhibition and sales.  Please read the Artist Exhibit Agreement document as well as note the following additional details below.  Contact 864-571-0597 or scaaorg@gmail.com if you have any questions.

  • Member show requires valid and active SCAA membership.  All approved artists will be notified as to acceptance to exhibit and time/hours to deliver artwork.
  • Apply on-line or send an e-mail to scaaorg@gmail.com within the deadlines posted as available space is limited.
  • Original work.  Artwork exhibit does not have a theme.
  • No entry fee for current Members to enter the artwork.  As with other art exhibits, a 25% commission to SCAA will be for the sale and listed, accrding to venue guidelines, without labeled prices.
  • All artworks exhibited must be priced for sale.  NFS works will not be accepted.
  • Limit of one (1) artwork per member may be considered.
  • 2-D artwork must be no larger than 36” by 36”  and no more than 30 lbs in weight (including frame and glass/plexiglass) to be placed on the hanging systems on the venue walls and exhibit  panels.
  • 3-D  artwork exhibit pedestals cannot accept larger pieces, and artwork may need to be secured.  Keep in mind that this exhibit will be in an active public venue.  Inquiries should be made as to any items which require floor or pedestal space.
  • Artwork shall be properly framed (or gallery wrapped), weigh no more than 30 lbs. and must be wired for hanging. No saw tooth hangers, single nail clips, or clip frames or adhesive wires/clips.  Artwork normally framed under glass is acceptable and so is plexiglass.  SCAA volunteers will not be able to exhibit pieces not properly meeting these specifications.
  • SCAA reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented, varies from the submitted image, or is not acceptable for public venue presentation.
  • SCAA reserves the right to use all art, artist information and images for publicizing the event and for other promotional purpose

Please note that SCAA needs additional volunteers to check in/check out art (3 volunteers each day of install/pick up day) as well as to assemble panels and initiating the placement of art (6 volunteers each day of install pickup day). Please contact SCAA to become a volunteer at this event.

Active Johnny Crawford’s Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project

SCAA is honored to present this exhibit at the North Cobb Regional Library to reintroduce SCAA member artist Johnny Crawford and his Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project with its continued mission to educate present and future Americans about the Black Soldiers in their community.

Exhibit will be displayed February 4 and extended until May 2 with a reception open to the public during Black History month on February 22 from 2-4pm.

Johnny Crawford is the Vietnam Black Soldiers Portrait Project’s founder, director, visual storyteller, and educator in Atlanta, Georgia. For 45 years, he has documented the human spirit in 45 states and four continents.

He taught photography at Grady High School, Marietta City Schools Adult Education Program, Clark Atlanta University, University of Georgia, and Mercer University in Macon, GA. In 2017, he was the Artist -In – Residence at Middle Georgia State University and the Tubman Museum in Macon, Georgia. While at the Tubman Museum, he produced the museum’s first permanent series of black & white portraits entitled “Leading the Way -Macon Trailblazers and Activists.”

He was an award-winning staff photographer for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) for over 28 years. During his tenure at the AJC, he photographed the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China; the 2004 G8 Summit of World Leaders; the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA; the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway; Nelson Mandela’s 1990 U.S. Tour; and five U.S. Presidents.

Johnny has an M.A. in Photojournalism from Ohio University and degrees in Psychology and Public Relations from Morehouse College. He’s a member of Cascade United Methodist Church and Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral.  He is married to Jacqueline Crawford, and they have three adult sons.

Expired Emerging Artists Exhibit: Student Artwork

Creativity has no age barrier.

Student artwork is enhanced by showing it in a public space beyond the classroom.

And, it is truly amazing to see the talent and expression of student artwork.  Closing Reception will be February 1 from 2 to 4pm and the public is invited.

SCAA continues to step out of the box and create more opportunities for celebrating school artwork. Thanks to art educators for keeping art as a focus point in the classroom.

Expired 2024 Best of Cobb

Honored to again receive an award in the MDJ BEST OF COBB “NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION” category for 2024. 

Congratulations to all of those selected as the Best of Cobb, and especially those SCAA members who also received honors of nominations and awards in the Best of Cobb 2024.  Appreciate the Marietta Daily Journal and Cobb Life Magazine for their roles in making this possible.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support and for recognizing our all Volunteer organization for its efforts to bring art to our communities and for empowering art educators and students since 1972. 

Please join us in SCAA’s ongoing volunteer service to the community which keeps moving forward after more than 50 years.
