ActiveGeorgia Gives on Giving Tuesday

SCAA Staff

Tuesday November 27 was Giving Tuesday, a nationally recognized day for citizens across the country to have an opportunity to give back to the communities in which they live.

Support for SCAA is community resourced with 100% of funds raised spent directly on various projects to promote the arts in Cobb County. Everything SCAA does is the work of unpaid volunteers.

Please consider supporting SCAA and our shared goals during this holiday season in any way you can whether with a donation or by becoming a member, volunteer, or sponsor. As SCAA continues to broaden its outreach and footprint, 2019 is a hallmark 47th year.  We look forward to many new and interesting arts activities in the coming year, and with your assistance we can achieve more than ever.

Whether you are an artist or not, art can build and strengthen our community. SCAA energizes the community with outreach, providing opportunities to the general public, opening doors to those who might otherwise not partake in the arts.  Come visit us at an upcoming event or at our Meet-Greet-Eat on December 6.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support.  Donate at the Ga Gives site or on this webiste at https://southcobbarts.org/#home

Inner Visions: Threads of space/time/face

A new exhibit at The Gallery at Powder Springs featuring the artwork of awarding winning twin sisters- Tokie (Rome) Taylor and Sachi Rome now through February 28 with a reception on February 4, 2019 from 5 to 7pm.

Tokie (Rome) Taylor is a Visual Arts teacher for Atlanta Public Schools.  She has been an artist for over 18 years with her medium choice of photography. Her shoots have ranged from the capturing the likes of Coretta Scott King, women’s’ empowerment shoots, to everyday children and families. Rome-Taylor measures her success as an artist by those that look upon her work and feel an emotional connection. She wants them to stare and ponder, study the work, look for hidden elements, and to guess at the story behind the image.

Tokie’s  fine art portraiture and stylized fine art photography have been featured in several galleries, websites, and shows including the Zuckerman Gallery, Fulton County Central Library, the Future Gallery, Photo Buckhead, The Atlanta Airport Photography Exhibit, and the ArtXchange.  She was a selected artist for the 31st SCAA National Juried Exhibit, as well as won First Prize at the 2018 SCAA Photography Exhibit.

Sachi Rome’s work is a reflection of her obsession with color and the human face. It centers primarily on the black female giving her agency and empowering her with ecofeminism. Her images reflect her being at one with nature and being nature (she is) there is an otherness, a mysticism there. Elements of color and collage through the use of mixed media are also thematic components of the work.

Her artwork has been acquired by the Fulton County 2018 Arts Acquisition and sits in the collection of private collectors throughout the United States. Her work has been featured at Mason Fine Art, TILA Studios, South Cobb Arts Gallery, Southwest Arts Center The Future Gallery and City of Ink, among others. Her murals and public art can be seen throughout the city of Atlanta, along the Westside trail on the Atlanta Beltline, Old Fourth Ward, Five Points,  and at Blue Heron Nature Preserve.  She won an Award of Merit at the SCAA 31st National Juried Exhibit.

See their artwork through a different perspective of space/time/face.  Let your imagination of  art transport you at The Gallery at Powder Springs.
