In my paintings, I strive to create a place for the observer to reside and experience it, to join in the work’s rhythm. Painting is my sanctuary, a place of refuge and contemplation, a hideout, a shrine, a place of new direction and a tribute to beauty.
I work in a loose and vibrant style using pastels, charcoal, acrylics and oils in unexpected ways that focuses on the personality and energy of the subject. Color, form, and line tell a story that pushes beyond traditional portraits or representational paintings. The symbols and metaphors used spark curiosity and explore what it means to be human. Influences include Gaugin, Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keefe. Inspirations include people, nature and concepts of hope, change and power. My work is in private collections all over the world.
Justin Groom is an illustrator and painter, and one half of Leafmore Studios – formed in 2022 with his partner, artist Becca McCoy.
Justin had early career success with a breakout underground comic book BIOHAZARD, released in 1990 and edited by Allen Shevy who also hired Justin as an illustrator and collaborator for industry periodical WORLD OF FANDOM. Justin was a fixture in the Tampa, Florida mid-90s nightclub scene creating murals, Trompe l’oeils, and structural / 3D installations. After a corporate-hiatus, Justin returned to full-time art in 2019 with work that includes fine art, commissions, and logo and product designs, exhibiting in Florida and Georgia, appearing at comic-cons, and vending at artist markets.
He possesses a singular, recognizable aesthetic throughout all his work while maintaining versatility in content. He is equally proficient in pen and ink as he is digital render, and in subject matter from the gory to the whimsical. The fine art of Miles Davis spans an array of subject matter from spiritual figurative to politics, funky florals, and whimsical illustrations. His paintings borrow aesthetics from mass media, calling back to his generation’s culture of comic books and video games. The subject matter often portrays the contradictory impulses of people’s moral compasses and animal instincts, whether happy, remorseful, or brutal. Due to the diverse scope of emotion and transcendental qualities available in his pieces, Miles’s work has connected and resonated with a wide audience. In the end, he hopes the viewer can take from the work a sense of the universal human condition and possibly look inside themselves and evaluate their own spiritual sensitivities.

“Home Going” is a depiction of a spiritual healing. The woman who is attached to the lead angel passed away and is being taken home to gl.ory. The angel on the left has released the woman from the hospital I.V. and the medication showing that she has been set free from her earthly struggles. The framed original is 40″ x 46″
I began doing art work when I retired. My paintings in oil consist of abstracts with heavy paint that is enough to be almost considered 3-D and landscapes that more recently are barebones concepts of trees or their skeletons in an abstract environment. I have began using old CDs and acrylic paint to make 3-D images on canvass. I am also doing small (about 5″ x 5″ x 5″) glass sculptures in abstract shapes and colors. As ideas and images come to my mind making them into something reduces time to a nonentity.
For me color symbolizes the mood of calmness in our minds, spirits,and our souls. It’s brings harmony, that’s pleasing to the eyes. It is the universal language of conversation to all of us. I try to tell a story through the vibrant colors that will speak to everyone’s heart. “So as I paint for you – Live your life in Full Color.
I paint with both oils and gouache. Landscapes and local scenes are my first love, but abstracts are a close second!
