I began doing art work when I retired.  My paintings in oil consist of abstracts with heavy paint that is enough to be almost considered 3-D and landscapes that more recently are barebones concepts of trees or their skeletons in an abstract environment.  I have began using old CDs and acrylic paint to make 3-D images on canvass.  I am also doing small (about 5″ x 5″ x 5″) glass sculptures in abstract shapes and colors.  As ideas and images come to my mind making them into something reduces time to a nonentity.

“Home Going” is a depiction of a spiritual healing.  The woman who is attached to the lead angel passed away and is being taken home to gl.ory.  The angel on the left has released the woman from the hospital I.V. and the medication showing that she has been set free from her earthly struggles.  The framed original is 40″ x 46″

About the Artist:

Dr. Damaris Shealy is a native of the Republic of Panamá. She is an artist whose raw talent began to take shape in middle school after migrating to the US thirty-seven years ago. During the past few years, Damaris has reclaimed her passion. Despite lengthy hiatus, Damaris’ raw uncultivated talent remained intact as she is once again rendering beautiful imagines that capture the various expressions of her subjects. Damaris focuses on the sensual nature of art, aiming to depict the expressions of her subjects through a rich combination of color, texture, and detailed likeness.

In my paintings, I strive to create a place for the observer to reside and experience it, to join in the work’s rhythm. Painting is my sanctuary,  a place of refuge and contemplation, a hideout, a shrine, a place of new direction and a tribute to beauty.

For me color symbolizes the mood of calmness in our minds, spirits, and our souls. It’s brings harmony, that’s pleasing to the eyes. It is the universal language of conversation to all of us. I try to tell a story through the vibrant colors that will speak to everyone’s heart. “So as I paint for you – Live your life in Full Color.

The fine art of Miles Davis spans an array of subject matter from spiritual figurative to politics, funky florals, and whimsical illustrations. His paintings borrow aesthetics from mass media, calling back to his generation’s culture of comic books and video games. The subject matter often portrays the contradictory impulses of people’s moral compasses and animal instincts, whether happy, remorseful, or brutal. Due to the diverse scope of emotion and transcendental qualities available in his pieces, Miles’s work has connected and resonated with a wide audience. In the end, he hopes the viewer can take from the work a sense of the universal human condition and possibly look inside themselves and evaluate their own spiritual sensitivities.

The artwork of Miles Davis has been embraced by thousands of people, worldwide. His paintings are included in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. Amid exhibiting in various local and regional galleries and shops, Miles also teaches art classes and private lessons to children and adults and is creator of the highly anticipated children’s books series Butterpup & friends™. Miles resides in Smyrna with his wife Merissa and their vivacious puppy Pica.

Unique and whimsical art, intertwining fantasy with the natural world.

About Amanda ~

Amanda’s current body of work consists of acrylic and mixed media paintings which reflect her fascination with nature and fantasy. She utilizes bold color and texture to represent engaging, otherworldly and often dark images of people, plants, animals and landscapes, placing the viewer somewhere in the gap between reality and fantasy.

A self-taught artist, she often finds inspiration through dreams and intuitive storytelling as well as the natural world.

ARTIST STATEMENT ~
Like most artists, my love for painting and drawing began at an early age. One of my fondest childhood memories is sitting with my Grandmother in the front room of her house and watching her paint. I would watch her for hours sometimes and I can still smell the oils and turpentine she used. She was a talented artist and a huge influence on me… always encouraging my creative side, and sharing with me all that she had learned.

Painting is a very personal experience for me because it’s my way of honoring my Grandmother while expressing my love for fantasy and nature. It’s a way of sharing all of the stories and images that I tend to keep hidden in the deepest recesses of my imagination. Some of my paintings come from dreams (sometimes even nightmares), but many begin by unlocking that dusty vault in my mind and unwrapping a fairytale, once imagined by a child. I want my work to evoke a curious sense of wonder and strange familiarity in the viewer… the notion that there is a wondrous story behind it all, and the anticipation of more yet to come.
